Dear Member of the Georgia Congressional Delegation:
I am not a wealthy man and I work hard for my pay. This will not change any time soon. I want you to know that the U. S. government receives over $1600 of my money every month. I also want you to consider the federal programs noted below and questions about how my money supports these programs. These are but a few examples of an endless stream running into a bottomless pit.
Since 1981, the U. S. Department of Agriculture provided $14.1 billion to farmers for insured crop loses. Loses were the result of drought, floods, hurricanes, and other natural disasters.
The Market Access Program sponsored by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, is a program that promotes the export of American agricultural products. This $90 million program subsidizes agricultural products in overseas markets. About one quarter of the funding for this program goes to support brand name products.
In 1999, Amtrak lost $907 million. They spent even more. Since 1971, government has given Amtrak $23 billion in operating and capital assistance.
Why does government use my money to subsidize farm
product insurance? My business gets no insurance subsidy. How can I get free product insurance from natural disasters?
Why does government use my money to promote agricultural products overseas? My business gets no public money for overseas promotion. How do I get government to force other people to give me their money for my personal benefit?
Why does government use my money to run trains that
only a few people ride? Can I get government to force other people to pay for 4-wheelers for me to ride? That would be a blast.
Why does government have the right to use my money for
any subsidy or charity that it democratically deems appropriate? How is this collective theft different than the individual theft of my wallet for the thief’s personal benefit? Government is doing collectively what the thief does individually. Campaign finance reform is a joke. The only reason people give you money is to get your favor and to steal my money. Campaign finance reform wouldn't be needed if you'd quit enriching one group at the expense of another.
I submit that the proper function for government is to protect and serve ALL PEOPLE equally. You cannot do this by redistributing wealth. Charity is not within your constitutional power. It makes perfect sense to me why people disrespect government. Government has no respect for the people. Law cannot logically subsidize all citizens, businesses, and groups equally. Some will be subsidized at the expense of others. If government (or law) is "of the people and by the people", how can the people give government the right to do what no individual can do? Law should defend our right to be free and to live peacefully so long as we do not use force on our neighbors.
Millions of Americans work even harder and longer than I do. You disrespect us every time you use our money to enrich other people. Please don't make excuses. According to the March 2000 GAO financial report, you have a lot of work to undo.
